The BBQ hut is a new addition and is available for guest use. You will find it down by the bothy. Although there are small solar lights along the path it is advised that you take the torch from the cottage as the area is not well lit at night.
The hut is a lovely place to sit in during the day with views across the fields and valley. Read a book, listen to music, chat with friends, enjoy the space. To encourage guests to use the BBQ hut we have bought charcoal in bulk and can supply it at cost, £5. If you want to supply your own charcoal then there is no charge.
- When the BBQ is in use ALWAYS ensure that there is adequate ventilation. We would advise leaving the door/window open while in use. Charcoal gives of CO gas which is a silent killer and for this reason there is a CO monitor in the hut. It can be silenced by pressing the large button but take action to increase ventilation if it does alarm.
- Take a torch.
- Please leave the hut as you found it. Hot coals should be removed the following day, and the grill platforms cleaned and returned. Wipe down table surfaces.
- Report any damage or breakages.
- There are melamine picnic plates in the cottage (dining room sideboard) as well as BBQ tong set.
- To light
- open door/window
- pile coals up in the centre of the grill with a fire lighter at the base
- light and allow to burn until the coals turn white (matches in plastic tub)
- spread the coals out across the grill area and cook
- It takes around 1 hour (or approx 1 bottle wine) from lighting to being ready to cook
- The grill areas become very hot.
- supervise children at all times
- wear the leather gauntlets to adjust grill platform height
- items on the table close to the fire will become very hot
- fire blanket located at the door for emergency use
